The Lord of Chaos lives up to his name....
My day started off with a bang. Literally. I woke Cal up this morning and we had a nice chat about his short dream wherein I was shooting a rifle at characters from the Land Before Time cartoon. He sat up and was still chattering away about said dream when he decided to demonstrate a move from the dream and threw himself back toward the pillow suddenly. Guess what? My head was there. He whacked the front of my head with the back of his and I came out the worse for it.
I was momentarily stunned by immense pain. I didn't lose consciousness but it damn well made my eyes water and I saw stars. I dragged myself up and Cal told me I had a bump. I got up slowly and checked my head in the bathroom mirror. Then I promptly freaked out. Suffice it to say I've never had a blow to the head like this one. Even being beaned in the head by a softball had never brought forth a golf ball sized egg like this one. Ice and ibuprofen brought the swelling down but it's still quite a knot. I'll try and post a picture when it's turning all colorful. That should be exciting.

Chris agrees with me....
Don't just take my word for how fun Speed Racer is, read the awesomeness that is Chris' opinion: www.the-isb.com/?p=364. 'Nuff said. Go see it

Happy Speed Racer...Uh, Mother's Day
It's Mother's Day here in the US, which means a family dinner for us. My mother-in-law recently purchased a new house with her boyfriend of many years and with this new house came the ability to join a country club. Not really my thing but he loves it and wanted to take my mother-in-law, her mother and his mother to eat brunch there today. Since we usually do a meal with moms from both of the families we joined them with my mom and brother. I'm not sure I ate my $25 worth but the food was good and the kids heeded my warning about being grounded for a week if they burped at the table.
After food, my real mother's day present began...we went to see Speed Racer. I'm probably not really the person to listen to since I love all things Speed Racer. I got a Lego set of the Mach 5 for my mother's day present after all. If you're reading reviews of this movie and they tell you it's bad, just ignore them. Speed Racer the movie is total fun...it's not deep or meaningful...just fun. If you've seen the cartoon you'll know what to expect with this movie, but with better special effects. The only thing that could have made it better would be to have an IMAX theater in my town. I'll be buying the extra spiffy edition DVD of this one when it comes out.
Here's to all you moms. Hope you had a good day.

Home
I survived Special Olympics although I didn't get my no mud wish. Wednesday the kids ran their relay race in the drizzling rain. We counted ourselves lucky, however, because Wednesday afternoon Oklahoma City was hit by some severe weather. Mom even took the kids into the hall closet. Poor Cal was so scared he was shaking.
Thursday's weather was rain free but we had the lovely after-effects of rain...mud. I was prepared with plastic bags for our slog through Olympic Village. My kid took his shoes off to go through the inflatable obstacle course and I didn't let him put them back on until we had exited Swamp Olympic Village. His feet were filthy but socks and shoes were relatively dry.
We managed to make it through all two hours of our Y swim party. No lightning or pool accidents drove us out and the kids were ready for sleep when we returned to the dorms. I love a swimming night that goes well...no showers!
Today we packed everything back up, hung out at a lovely pond on the OSU campus and ate lunch at Hideaway Pizza. I had a much better time this year since last year by the time we hit Hideaway I was well on my way to being sick. The only thing I remember about that lunch was sitting in misery wishing it were over and we were on our bumpy bus ride home. Today though I had a good time with the kids and even read some comics on the trip home.
Now I'm back and pooped. So pooped that I'm amazed I wrote all of the above. If some of it doesn't make that much sense, you'll understand why.

Online Garage Sales
I've been doing some spring cleaning around the ol' house. Ebay has been my method for getting rid of a few things. So far I've been pretty lucky with all but one item selling. E convinced me to put some of my comic book trades that I no longer want up at Amazon. That's been amazing. No fuss with putting them up and they only charge you when the item sells. That's my kind of online selling. Now if I can get some of Cal's toys he no longer plays with posted, sold and out the door before he notices....
