Tony DiGerolamo’s The Travelers is now published by Kenzer & Company (Knights of the Dinner Table) rather than his own SJRP imprint and I’m happy to say there hasn’t been any decline in quality. A bonus for new readers is the inside front cover which introduces the main characters of the series.
This issue finds our heroes meeting with representatives from the Nipponese Empire who are searching for the remains of a flying ship that crashed near Beastleyville some 20 years earlier. Of course, there’s bound to be something nefarious afoot and Locust, the court wizard, and his friends are smack dab in the middle of things. Romance, ninjas, Marco Polo, a mystic scroll, demons and a flying carpet combine to make this issue the perfect jumping on point for new readers.
Tony DiGerolamo describes The Travelers as “Dungeons and Dragons meets the Three Stooges.” I would change the Three Stooges to the Marx Brothers but you get the idea. Suffice it to say The Travelers will make you grin and giggle as you read it. There’s no pretense at seriousness within the pages and the result is a comic that deserves to be on more subscription lists in comic shops.
Brian S. Dawson’s art is as good as ever and his characters imbue the story with just the right amount of slapstick without being overly exaggerated.
