All
of you who missed Castle Waiting its first go around are in luck. Linda
Medley is back from her self-imposed hiatus and putting out CW under the
Cartoon Books (Bone) banner. If you are unfamiliar with the world of Castle
Waiting, think of it as a place where every fairy tale, legend, fable or
tall tale can come together.
This issue is part one of Sister Peaceful’s tale. Sister Peace is a Solicitine nun, an order of bearded women believe it or not. Peaceful Hortense Elaine Warren began her life as the daughter of pub owners. She was happy working in her parents’ pub but longed for adventure and to experience the world. To further this goal Peace leaves the safety of the pub and heads for the circus hoping to become their bearded lady. It’s not to be, however, because the circus already has a bearded lady, the beautiful Clytemnestra, Queen of the Nile (her stage name, natch). I don’t want to give any more away but Peaceful’s adventures have only just begun and part one gives us a doozy of a story.
Medley mines a rich tapestry of literature and adds her own unique flavor. Her storytelling skills are in top form and, as with the previous CW series, she gives the reader engaging characters, compelling stories and some darn purty artwork.
